The kind of Corona situation which we saw in Europe and Africa during the first wave is witnessed in India now. It is highly disturbing to see patients being treated in ambulances due to a lack of beds in hospitals. It speaks about the speed of covid surge and the inadequacy of medical infrastructure. Queues in burning ghats and crematoriums present a distressing scene. Causes of surge: The second wave surge is the result of improper conduct of people due to ignorance, religious bigotry and poverty. People are not following the Corona guidelines viz. masking, social distancing and hand hygiene thereby facilitating the spread in the community as they do not take the advice in the media seriously.
